The game of Teen Patti is a simplified version of Poker, with simple rules and easy gameplay. Anyone can easily start playing Teen Patti after watching a few rounds of gaming action.

A standard 52-card deck without jokers is used to play Teen Patti. The game is usually played in a group of 3 to 6 players. It is your goal as a player to form the highest-ranking hand according to the hand rankings.

Step 1: Choose a dealer by drawing cards

You’ll need a dealer to help you conduct the game before you start playing Teen Patti. It is also the dealer who deals the cards in a clockwise direction, starting with him. Take one card from each of the 52 cards in the deck, and select the dealer. Here, the highest card drawn becomes the dealer.

Step 2: Decide on the initial wager and place it

To join the game, players must first select a dealer and place an initial wager. The initial bet is called the “ante” in Teen Patti. The ante also caps the pot amount in every Teen Patti round to 1024 times the ante if the game is played with a limit.

Step 3: The dealer distributes the cards

After that, the dealer deals the cards to himself and each player until everyone has three cards. Once the cards have been dealt, they should immediately be turned face down.

Step 4: Begin playing with the player next to the dealer

Players will begin acting in the game as soon as they sit next to the dealer. Players can opt to play blind or seen. Blind refers to a player who places the wager without examining the three face-down cards. A player who places a wager without viewing the cards is referred to as seen. Alternatively, if the player decides to act blindly, he can raise to double his ante. In the event he chooses to play seen, he can double the ante or raise to quadruple it. 

Step 5: Take part in the gaming action

As the betting continues clockwise, each player has the option to fold, call, or raise as a blind or seen player. According to the stake set by the previous player and whether the current player is playing blind or seen, the amount the player needs to wager varies.

Step 6: Request a sideshow from the players

In cases where a seen player is playing after another seen player and there are at least three players left in the game, the current player can request a sideshow from the previous player. Sideshow participants can agree or refuse the request for a sideshow. Upon accepting the sideshow request, the two players compare their cards and the player with the lower hand folds.

When the hand rankings are equal, the player who requested the sideshow must fold. The betting process continues as usual if the sideshow request is denied.

Step 7: Request a showdown

When players have folded or there are only two players left in the game, one of them can call for a showdown. During a showdown, each player compares his or her cards and the one with the highest-ranking wins the pot.

Chaal – The total bet in Teen Patti consists of two parts – the call and the raise, both of which are referred to as chaal.

Call – A call is when you match the last player’s bet.

Raise – When you make a raise, you are increasing the previous player’s bet.

Pot – In Teen Patti, a pot is kept at the end of every round that has a boot amount (minimum cash stake). As the game progresses, the pot rises until the winner collects it at the end.

Ante – The ante in Teen Patti is an upfront bet that each player has to place before the game begins. This is a fixed amount every player must wager at the beginning of the game.

Blind – Usually, the blind bet is a forced bet made by one or more players before the game begins.

Fold – When you fold, you decide to leave the game.

Sideshow – This is a side bet in which you invite another player to view your cards together. In case you have a better hand, you win the bet and remain in the game. When someone with a better hand beats your hand, you fold.
