Pakistan Super League 2022

By defeating Multan Sultans in the final of the Pakistan Super League 2022 tournament on February 27 at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore Qalandars won their first-ever cup. The Qalandars beat the high-flying Sultans in a thrilling chase of 181 thanks to Mohammad Hafeez’s all-round brilliance.

Qalandars scored 180/5 in 46 balls after electing to bat first thanks to Hafeez’s collection of nine fours and one six in his 46-ball 69. Along with Harry Brook and David Wiese’s quick-fire cameos (22 off 41 balls and 8 off 28 balls respectively), the bowlers completed the good show with their excellent work in Pakistan Super League 2022.

A nine-run deficit could not be overcome by the Sultans as they never kept the pace for enough time. The in-form Mohammad Rizwan and Aamer Azmat were sent back after Hafeez (2/23) struck twice inside the first seven overs. While Zaman Khan (2/26) capitalized on those early inroads by taking the wickets of Rilee Rossouw and Asif Afridi.

After being reduced to 63/5 at half-time, the Sultans felt the pressure mounting with each delivery. Even though Tim David (27 off 17) and Khushdil Shah (32 off 23) briefly appeared capable of doing the unthinkable with a brisk 51-run alliance is merely 28 balls, the tall ask remained.

The double-strike by Shaheen Afridi in the 17th over, however, proved to be a game-changing blow that dismissed David and David Willey. Khushdil was dented by Haris Rauf in the subsequent over to put an end to any hopes of a late twist in the tale of Pakistan Super League 2022 finals as the Qalandars restricted those 42 runs short.
