Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium – General Overview
The Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium can be found in Pune’s suburbs. The state-of-the-art ground is also popularly known by another alias, Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium. It was inaugurated by Sharad Pawar, the then chief minister in 2012. It was however scheduled to be built by 2010. Unfortunately, it did not get fully constructed by 2012. The stadium was supposed to host the 2011 World Cup.
History
International matches were once held at Pune’s Nehru Stadium. Regretfully, the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) had to construct a new ground as a result of problems with ticket distribution between the MCA and the Pune Municipal Corporation. It was known as the Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium for a short while. However, the stadium’s “naming rights” were once more changed to Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium because Sahara India Parivar was unable to pay the full sum that it had promised to pay for them.
A Twenty20 International between India and England took place in December 2012, marking the ground’s first-ever international match. It also hosted its first Indian Premier League game in 2012, between Pune Warriors India and Kings XI Punjab.
