Except for the IPL season, 2011 IPL is played under a Double Round-Robin format. Earlier 8 teams used to play 60 matches against each other. And at the end of the league stage, the top four teams will be qualified for the playoffs.
Each team will play 14 league stage matches, they will clash with each team twice in the league stage matches. 7 home matches and 7 away matches (which is the home match for the opponent team)
The table-toppers from the league stage will face each other in the 1st qualifier. The winner of this match will directly go to the finals of the season. The losers of this match will get another chance to qualify for the season finals by playing 2nd qualifier match.
The third and fourth teams are on the points table after the league stage matches. Will face each other in the eliminator match the loser of this match will get knocked out of the tournament. The winner will face the loser of the 1st Qualifier match and the winner of this match will play in the finals.
As 2 new teams were added to IPL 2022 BCCI confirmed that there will be a change in the IPL 2022 format. The BCCI officials said “We cannot have a home and away matches with 94 games in IPL 2022 as there is no window so we will re-introduce the old format which was used in 2011’

In Group A, Mumbai Indians will play two matches with all the teams in Group A. And Mumbai Indians will clash against Chennai Super Kings twice. But they will only play one match each against the remaining teams in Group B.
Similarly, in Group B, Royal Challengers Bangalore will play two matches with all the teams in Group B. And Royal Challengers Bangalore will clash against Rajasthan Royals twice. But they will only play one match each against the remaining teams in Group A.
