Chennai Super Kings, commonly known as CSK is an Indian Premier League franchise based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The Chennai Super Kings was established in 2008 along with the birth of the Indian Premier League. The major stakeholder of the team is India Cements and the franchise is owned by Chennai Super Kings Cricket Ltd. They play their home matches at the M.A Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The team is led by its skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni and coached by former New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming. All the franchises participating in the league will be fighting for the title that the defending champions (CSK) are holding.
In 2008, Chennai Super Kings was sold to India Cements for 91 million dollars, making it the fourth most expensive team in the league behind Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Bangalore. A right for the acquisition of Chennai Super Kings for 10 years had been given to India Cements. The franchisee was later transferred to a separate entity called Chennai Super Kings Cricket Ltd. after the Supreme Court of India allowed official board members to have a commercial interest in the Indian Premier League and the Champions League Twenty20 on 22 January 2015.

Chennai Super Kings had an amazing auction season in 2008 during the Inaugural IPL season. They had bought several contemporary star cricketers such as the captain himself, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Stephen Fleming, Matthew Hayden, Michael Hussey, and Muttiah Muralitharan. Dhoni was bought for 1.5 million dollars, making him the costliest player in the auction. The franchise then appointed him as their skipper along with Kepler Wessels as their head coach. Chennai Super Kings played their first match against Kings XI Punjab at Mohali beating them by 33 runs after scoring a total of 240/5 which was also the highest score of the tournament.
In 2009 the Super Kings had bought Andrew Flintoff, the English all-rounder for 1.55 million while Royal Challengers Bangalore had bought Kevin Pietersen, Flintoff’s national teammate. Unfortunately, faith decided otherwise for Flintoff as he had been ruled out of the tournament after a knee injury by playing only 3 matches.
Chennai Super Kings has had a triumphant career throughout the years. They rule the Indian Premier League having the highest win percentage (59.83%) of matches among all teams in the league. The franchise has won the league four times in the years 2010, 2011, 2018, and 2021.
Chennai Super Kings had faced Mumbai Indians in the final at their home ground. Suresh Raina’s half-century helped the team recover from 68/3 after 12 overs to project a score of 168/5 at the end of 20 overs. Ravichandran Ashwin and Muttiah Muralitharan took care of the bowling part by not conceding many runs in 8 overs. The Super Kings won the game by 22 runs.
In the 2011 IPL, Chennai Super Kings lost 3 of their first 5 games. Eventually, they went on to win seven of their next eight games to get themselves to the knockout stages. They faced Royal Challengers Bangalore in the final and won by 6 wickets again with the help of the unbeaten Suresh Raina.
The franchise played their first match in the 2018 season with Mumbai in which they managed to bag a thrilling win with the unbeaten Dwayne Bravo who scored 68 off 30 balls. The team then lost to Kings XI Punjab and then bounced back with a victory against Rajasthan Royals. Chennai went on to a battle in the finals against Sunrisers Hyderabad and won against them.
Cheteshwar Pujara was added to the squad for a base price of Rs 50 lakh. They began the first game in the season with a loss against Delhi Capitals. They carried a consecutive 5 match winning streak after that, followed by a match defeat against Mumbai Indians. The second leg of the Indian premier league was conducted in the United Arab Emirates. Chennai Super kings winded up the league stage by 3 losses. CSK then managed to beat Delhi Capitals in the qualifiers 1 to make it to the finals where they faced the Kolkata Knight Riders to grab their 4th IPL title.

The main attraction towards Chennai Super Kings was the draft of the former Indian Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. He was bought into the team in 2008 for 1.5 million dollars at the auction. He was the most valuable player in the IPL 2008 until the arrival of Andrew Flintoff who was purchased by Chennai Super King itself for 1.55 million dollars. Dhoni is considered to be one of the most successful captains in the history of the Indian Premier League. Mahendra Singh Dhoni had captained the team that has appeared in nine finals of which they have won four out of them.
Suresh Raina was the deputy of Dhoni from 2008 to 2015. Raina is a holder of multiple records such as most runs, most caps, and most catches. Michael Hussey the Aussie batsman has the best batting average for the team. Hussey was the first batsman to knock a century among the other players on the team. Murali Vijay was the first batsman to score two centuries in the IPL. He played in the stint of the 2011 and 2013 seasons. The star spinner of the Chennai Super Kings, Ravichandran Ashwin has the best economy rate in the Indian Premier League (6.53) and also is the lead wicket-taker of the franchise.
According to the BCCI regulation, Clause 6.2.4 stated that there should not be any commercial interest in the matches conducted by the board, until September 2008. However, the treasurer and vice-chairman of BCCI, N. Srinivasan became the de-facto owner of Chennai Super Kings since he was the managing director of their owner company, India Cements. This was a violation of the earlier stated Clause.
Gurunath Meiyappan, son-in-law of Srinivasan, in May 2013, was confiscated by Mumbai Police on charges of placing bets in IPL matches. He was found being in communication with Vindu Dara Singh who had access to bookies. As a retaliation to this incident, Srinivasan had to step down as BCCI President temporarily until further inquiries.
The Supreme Court of India issued the Board of Control for Cricket in India an ultimatum which insisted that Srinivasan either resign from his position or be removed as president on 25 March 2014. RM Lodha Committee had suspended the owners of Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings from the Indian Premier League for a stint of two years. The Supreme Court of India decided to agree with the plea for lifting the ban on the Chennai Super Kings on 24 February 2016.

For the top order of the Chennai Super Kings, the Proteas wicket-keeper batter would be a great asset behind the stumps. Since Dhoni is nearing his retirement, CSK should consider him as Dhoni’s replacement and also a replacement for Faf du Plessis in the long run for the opening.
A talented white-ball bowler who can change his pace and bring varieties into the attack while bowling, he is also capable of pulling some magic in the lower order batting when it is needed.
When it comes to power-play, Chahar is the one CSK always goes to. He has been a key player in the power-play. MS Dhoni’s faith lies with him and he enjoys it. CSK should extend their arms to grab him.
The Under 19 World Cup winner and a future for the Indian team. The Chennai Super Kings should nab him and groom him wisely for the future.
As a hard hitter, Powell can be a vital player for Chennai. He has demonstrated his abilities in the recent series that was held against England.

Everyone is familiar with the term ‘El Clasico’, which is the Spanish term for the derby between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. The rivalry between Barcelona and Real Madrid is considered to be legendary for a long time. The rivalries are not just limited to just one sport, it varies from sport to sport.
The IPL rivalries began in 2008, in the inaugural season. Mumbai Indians had Sachin Tendulkar, the greatest cricketer to ever set foot on the pitch. Chennai Super Kings had MS Dhoni, a player who was changing the course of the game for India.
The rivalry reached its peak when they met in the final at DY Patil Stadium in 2010 where Chennai lifted their first title. They had won the title again in 2011 is when Mumbai had decided to change their approach against the tactics. Mumbai, as a result, won the Champions League in 2011. They peaked with strategy when they had won both Champions League as well as IPL in 2013 by beating Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals in the final respectively.
MS Dhoni’s Chennai side has a better win-loss ratio against every other team barring Mumbai Indians with 12-17. Skipper Rohit Sharma had matched with Dhoni’s tactical brilliance and power-hitting. India has now witnessed two of their finest skippers in the modern era T20 format.
